Newtown Celebrates America 250

Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary in Historic Newtown during Newtown Celebrates America 250 on Saturday, August 8, 2026. This free community celebration features Revolutionary War reenactments, living historians, military drills for children, colonial crafts, historic site tours, museum exhibits, demonstrations, and family activities throughout Newtown’s walkable historic district. Morning activities include Revolutionary War encampments, fife and drum performances, and the Battle at the Bird-in-Hand featuring approximately 50 reenactors portraying American and British forces. Following the battle, visitors are invited to stay for a special patriotic ceremony featuring a 21-gun salute and a community sing-along of “Happy Birthday” led by Mayor Tara Grunde-McLaughlin . Afternoon experiences invite visitors to explore historic churches, museums, meeting houses, and community landmarks while discovering stories spanning the Revolutionary War, Civil War, early Pennsylvania history, and the people who helped shape Newtown and America.
